Using Photos Wisely Workshop
Discover how to create original artwork without infringing on copyrights.
In this 3-day workshop, using floral examples as the subject matter, students learn about copyright laws and copyright protection. Working with a combination of personal photos and "protected" resources, students learn how to create a new and fresh illustration that retains accuracy. Exercises in model-building help transform 2D subjects into interactive 3D structures that can be observed and drawn from a new perspective. Step-by-step exercises provide a systematic, yet very creative path, to working from copyrighted materials without copying.
As a final project, students work to create an original graphite botanical illustration. Each day includes lectures, demo, exercises, work time, and critiques.
