NEW ROOF ON KILN BUILDING!

Tags:

Two of PCH's most popular departments -- jewelry and pottery -- were greatly affected when the roof of the Kiln Building caught fire last July. Specifically, the jewelers had to move their classes and, with the pottery kiln unusable, clay pieces couldn't be fired. With the near completion of the new roof and the addition of heating, air conditioning, and running water, the jewelers now have a new and improved workspace.

Meanwhile, steps have been taken to move the pottery kiln to the greenhouse next door (It couldn't be used for growing plants -- no sun, heat or water). Once the ventilation hood from the old building is moved there, everyone's pots can be glazed and fired and finished!

The other advantage in this is that jewelers won't be driven out when the pottery kiln is in use; each department will have its own much more efficient and hospitable space. So the fire was actually a blessing in disguise. Probably, the "Kiln Building" will get a new name. (We've also call it "the Fire Arts Building.").

Remember that we still have equipment to purchase so that the studios are up to speed -- all donations welcome!
