How do I get information about classes?
Go to the "CLASSES" tab on the home page to see descriptions, dates and times, tuition, and enrollment instructions. Our class schedule is updated weekly. New classes are added constantly. Our instructors are happy to answer any questions you have about skills and materials required, finding a convenient class time, and so forth (see their contact information at "CLASSES"). You can pick up a catalog at our office in the Scott School at 500 E 3300 S, or call 801-481-7131 to have one sent to you by mail or email.
How do I register for classes?
Register online with PayPal or stop by the office to pay in person (cash, checks or charge are accepted).
Can I just show up for a class?
Preregistration is required. Many classes must have a minimum enrollment to run, so if a class gets canceled and you haven't registered, you may show up to find a locked classroom.
Payment in full is expected at the time of registration. Talk with your instructor about the method of payment.
Tuition fees for individual classes are listed in the descriptions. They are typically lower than other similar organizations, but every class is different depending on time and materials. Some fees are on a sliding scale.
Scholarships are available from time to time. Inquire at 801-481-7131 or pioneerchs@gmail.com.
How old do I have to be to take classes at PCH?
Ages are listed with each class. Individual instructors can answer your questions.
Do you have classes at night and on weekends?
Yes. Click on the "CALENDAR" tab on the home page to see what's happening when.
You don’t have the class I’m looking for.
Maybe not this week, but please keep checking for new offerings. Our aim is to be a community resource for arts education, so we need to hear from you as to what your needs are. Email us with suggestions at pioneerchs@gmail.com or call the instructor in your area of interest to see if you can work something out.
I’m interested in teaching a class.
We’re always looking for new instructors. Contact pioneerchs@gmail.com or 801-481-7131 for application guidelines.
PCH is in a very attractive and convenient location central to Salt Lake City, at 500 E 3300 S. Two bus lines -- #205 and #33 -- drop you off right at the campus.
Where's the office located?
The office is in Scott School, the big red-brick building on the corner. Office hours are T-W from 1:00-5:00 or by appointment. Because we're an all-volunteer organization, the presence of instructors on campus varies, so call ahead of time to see who's on duty.
Our campus is not at this time ADA compliant, however, the Art Room, Wood Shop, Great Room, Quilting Room, Kiln Room, and restrooms are accessible. Work is being done this summer to improve the accessibility of entrances and restrooms.
To help people learn new skills, as well as encourage a serious engagement in others, we offer classes for all skill levels. Contact your instructor to see how we can meet your needs.
I have a special project to work on but don’t have the proper equipment.
Our weaving and jewelry studios are unique in the state, so we can offer equipment and instructors for the advanced craftsperson, as well as open lab times to work independently or with guidance.
